PENDULUM
CREDITS
Stefania Orfanidou‘s (b. 1989, Greece) connection to Italy started 12 years before she was born. Her parents met in the Italian city of L’Aquila and fell in love. So, Orfanidou grew up absorbing a lot of their romantic stories related to the region and one day even visited the place with them. With time, a peculiar story molded in her head: a mixture of real events with the fictional scenery of her imagination. Many years after, Orfanidou moved to L’Aquila as an architect to help with the reconstruction of the city after the earthquake. This experience was crucial for creating the photographic series Pendulum.
The post-seismic terrain brought back faded childhood memories, fears and lost hopes. In order to heal the wound that the Italian experience opened in her heart, Orfanidou started capturing the encounter with her past photographically. Eventually, with this, she has managed to reconstruct the lost pieces and build a connection to the city, that became her metaphor for resilience in love and in life.
