RADIUS
CREDITS
How far can you go until intimacy leads to aversion? With his series Radius, 28-year-old Ukrainian photographer Yura Kolomiets seeks to discover the distinction between romanticism and vulgarism. People’s desires often stay secret, behind the walls of their personal interior. However, Kolomiets wanted to reveal what happens if you break the safe radius of this circle, by capturing a woman’s hidden desire in relation to her surroundings. Daily objects and natural elements, which seem to be innocent at first sight, such as the hinges of a closet and a chicken breast, get a different, almost controversial meaning in combination with the captured desire and nudity.
The tension of the images is strengthened by underexposure, play with shadows and the rawness of analogue photography, which results in a visually inviting translation of something usually considered vulgar.
