Daily life can seem at any given point poetic or mundane, imbued with lightness or weighted down with darkness. Through grainy black and white images, the new book En Écho De Lumière serves as a visual diary for Montpellier-based photographer Fabien Pio (1988). Expressing his daily experiences over a period of five years, the images reveal small and delicate extracts in dramatic form. With moody portraits, scenes of stormy seas, tender playfulness of children and mysterious settings of nature, the series does not describe Pio’s life so much as the emotion felt while living it. Brooding and fuelled by wonder, the book is a reminder that beauty and meaning are interpretations that come from within. En Écho De Lumière includes poems (in French) by Salah Al Hamdani.
