In the series Twilight Zone, Arnau Blanch (b. 1983) explores the effects of opium in dreams. His images seem to originate from the same corners of the universe where stars are made: galaxies are being born in the swirls of mysterious, cosmic matter; clouds of galactic colours both familiar and otherworldly speak of creation and eternity.
Using a camera-less technique with multiple translucent layers and multicoloured emulsions, the process here is highly artificial. However, the abstract images feel organic and laced with awe, like bringing pond water up to a microscope—but without the burden of science. It is pure wonder.
