TRACES & SILENCES
CREDITS
In his recent series Traces & Silences, American photographer Andy Egelhoff (b. 1989) captures the heart of the dance music network around the world. Egelhoff took documentary photographs at after-parties, artists’ creative spaces and DIY venues in twelve countries. Using his camera as a tool to play with reality, Egelhoff’s photography creatively contributes to the visual archive of the underground dance culture.
Traces & Silences centres around themes of vulnerability and ephemerality. It includes photographs of people dancing in leotards, DJing in dresses and standing still in jeans. The series also shows the very different kinds of spaces and atmospheres that the underground parties take place in – some venues are lined with mirrors and balloons while others are completely empty. Showing the atmosphere of the dance scene and the day after, Egelhoff gives insight into the personalities and settings that make up this underground culture.
