The photographer Giorgio Taraschi, who is currently based in Bangkok, shows in his series They Took Our Land a fight between nature and man-made activity. In 2008 the government of Berlusconi signed an international agreement with the president of Montenegro Djukanovic in order to import potentially renewable energy from the Balkans.

Focusing on the Italian side of the story, Taraschi has found out how this agreement has resulted in a new ‘electric highway’ running as high as 80 meters, a third of which planned to be building on seismic and hydrogeological risk areas. This is even about to rise and therefore the ‘The Green Region of Europe’ will soon to be a forest of transmission towers.

The consequences of such activity will most likely lead towards spoiling the landscape and its nature, increasing the risk for health. Taraschi shows the expropriation of hundreds of people who struggle to get their land and their rights back.
