With his series Tangibles, photographer Carlos Collado (1977, Spain) focuses on the moment in which an artwork leaves the showroom and is handled by curators, scientists, restorers and other museum staff. In this transition, the reality of the object changes along with its context. There’s no longer a separation, like glass, between the person and the piece of art. The object is even touched, something that is certainly not allowed in a showroom. According to Collado: “This project also aims to study the role of art conventions and to explore the way we inherently view art”.

The photographs were made in the Museum of Design of Barcelona. Collado captured open display cases, walls marked with silhouettes of antique pieces, art conservators who manipulate pieces and massive accumulations of objects that are covered by plastics, while they await relocation.

Tangibles was showcased at the first edition of Slideluck Tokyo on April 1, 2016 at Galaxy Gingakei.
