The winter motorcycle rally The Elefantentreffen takes place during a weekend in January or February in the Bavarian Forest, where the temperatures are often below zero. Conditions are tough: the bikers don’t have any facilities but tents and straw. Despite the frost and snow, a bond emerges from the motorcyclists as they endure the difficulties of the rally amidst the elements, but also celebrate and enjoy life.
Alessandro d’Angelo (1981, Italy) portrayed a few of the 4000 bikers who participate in the rally. D’Angelo photographed the bikers together with their motorcycles, standing in the snow. The photographs are made in the evening, when the motorcyclists can relax and drink a beer after a tough day.
