The Cologne based photographer Jonathan Fuss (1989) noticed how the city of Istanbul is currently undergoing a great transformation. There has been an expansion of economic growth in the last few years and this has brought a desire to modernize.

The series Altered Neighborhoods shows old buildings that are being torn down. At the same time, a great number of standardized, social projects are being constructed. This has the consequence that the city’s borders have been pushed outwards and therefore the green grasses of nature become scarce and ruffled.

Fuss aims to show a transformation process of entire city sections that are now subject to revaluation pressures. On the other hand, by emphasizing on nature aspects within his photographs, it also shows the wrestle between the natural elements of the world and man-made activity.
