On Wednesday 8 March, in the context of International Women’s Day 2023, Melkweg in Amsterdam presents the opening of ‘That’s What She* Said’: a multidisciplinary arts program which draws attention to gender equality and equal rights.
Invited to curate a group exhibition in response to the urgent protests led by women in Iran, Dutch-Iranian photographer and filmmaker Tina Farifteh gives the most relevant feminist movement of recent times a place in the Melkweg EXPO exhibition space.
Titled ‘Qoqnoos’, the exhibition focuses on art as a form of resistance, and resistance simply by being a woman. It includes selected video artworks, photographs, installations and multimedia works by female artists from Iran and the Iranian diaspora, including Elnaz Assar, Niloofar Azimian, Tina Farifteh, Golshan, Sara Kazemimanesh, Nastaran Razawi Khorasani & Davy Pieters, Afsaneh Ghafarian Rabe’I and Newsha Tavakolian.
